DIPLOMATS IN SYDNEY SIGN CONDOLENCE BOOK FOR PRESIDENT AQUINO
5 August 2009 (Sydney) – Diplomats and heads of the consular missions in
Sydney have signed the Book of Condolence which the Philippine Consulate General
in Sydney opened in honour of the late former President Corazon C. Aquino.
“She was a friend of freedom and a champion of democracy whose passing
the world truly mourns,” wrote one Consul General.
Former foreign ambassadors to the Philippines are among the private citizens
who are coming to the Consulate to express their sympathies for the bereaved family
of the late President and the Filipino people for their loss. “She was an excellent
leader and it was an honour for me to have been an Ambassador to the Philippines
while she was President,” said one former diplomat.
“All over the world, there is a deep respect for President Aquino, and it is being
demonstrated by the outpouring of messages from the distinguished diplomats in
Sydney,” said Consul General Eva G. Betita.
