FILIPINO COMMUNITY IN NEW SOUTH WALES HOLD MASSES FOR CORY
6 August 2009 (Sydney) – The Filipino-Australian Community in New South
Wales in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney is organizing
holy masses throughout the state for the repose of the soul of the late former
President Corazon C. Aquino, who passed away on 1 August 2009.
Filipino priests are offering Masses in their respective parishes. The following
parishes will hold a Memorial Mass on 9 August, Sunday for their congregations and
general public:
- 11:00 a.m. at Mary Immaculate Parish Church, corner Mimosa and
Restwell Roads, Bossley Park, NSW 2176. It will be officiated by Rev.
Nards Mercene of the Archdiocese of Sydney.
- 12:30 p.m. at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, 1 Marist Place, Parramatta
NSW 2150. This mass will be officiated by Rev. Raning Creta, Filipino
Chaplain of the Diocese of Parramatta.
- 3:30 p.m. at Our Lady of The Rosary Cathedral, 23 Yardley Avenue,
Waitara, NSW 2077. The mass will be officiated by Rev. Casey Ureta,
Filipino Chaplain of the Diocese of Broken Bay.
The Consulate sponsored the first holy mass for President Aquino in Sydney
on 3 August, which was attended by leaders and members of the Filipino Community.
“It is very moving how Filipinos and Australians of Filipino descent and people
of other nationalities are responding to the passing away of former President Aquino.
On the day of her death, Filipinos and former Filipinos in New South Wales offered
their prayers for her, and Filipino priests all over the state celebrated masses for her.
Many went to the Consulate to sign the Book of Condolence that was opened on 3
August for the public to convey their messages to the Aquino family and the Filipino
people,” said Consul General Betita

Father Manuel Santiago offers a Requiem Mass for the late former President
Corazon Aquino at the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney. Filipino priests in
New South Wales also held Masses for the much-admired President. Masses will be
held for her on 9 August, Sunday, at the parishes of Bossley Park, Waitara, and
Parramatta. |
