Ambassador De Leon presents credentials to
the Governor-General of Australia
Philippine Ambassador to Australia Ernesto
H. de Leon presented his credentials to the Governor-General of
Australia at the Government House in Canberra on 23 June 2006,
expressing his intentions to continue building on defense cooperation
through the Philippine Defense Reform Program and in other activities
such as maritime security, counter-terrorism and education and
training.

Consulate warns travelers of stiff penalties
for 'Identity Theft' and 'Credit Card Fraud'
Consul General Lazaro issued a warning
as she informed the Department that a Sydney Local Court has sentenced
on 7 December 2005 a Filipino to a six-month jail term after pleading
guilty to the charges of using an assumed identity and possessing
a counterfeit credit card. The Department is withholding
the name of the convicted Filipino to protect his and his family’s
privacy.

Parramatta City Mayor to visit Cebu to re-vitalize
sister-city relations
The Consulate announced that a Parramatta City Council delegation
headed by Lord Mayor David Borger will visit Cebu City from 12-17
January 2006 as a guest of Mayor Tomas Osme ña and the
Cebu City Council, witness the Sinulog Festival and explore
opportunities for trade, tourism and people-to-people exchange
as part of efforts to revitalize the eight-year Sister City Agreement

Consulate coordinates with Australian Maritime Authorities in search for missing Filipino Seaman
Consul General Maria Theresa P. Lazaro of the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney, Australia, reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the consulate is coordinating with the Australian maritime rescue authorities in the search for AB (Able Body) Enrico M. Cabana, the Filipino seaman reported missing from the Japanese bulk carrier MV Hokuriku Maru.
