Dual Citizenship
With the passage of the Citizenship Retention and Re-acquisition Act of 2003 (Republic Act No. 9225), former natural-born Filipinos all over the world can
re-acquire or retain their Philippine citizenship.
Checklist of Requirements
- Two (2) original duly accomplished forms (Petition for Philippine Citizenship Retention/Re-Acquisition) - available at the Consulate or online.
- One (1) original duly accomplished application form (Identification Certificate) – available at the Consulate or online.
- Original (with registry number) or NSO Registered Philippine Birth Certificate Copies of NSO-registered Philippine birth certificates may be requested from the National Statistics Office website: www.ecensus.com.ph (fees apply)
• If born outside the Philippines, Report of Birth (ROB) issued by the Philippine Embassy/Consulate (refer to www.philippineconsulate.com.au/civil.html)
• If the name of the applicant in his/her birth certificate or other documents is different from that in his/her Certificate of Naturalization or foreign passport, the Bureau of Immigration requires that the applicant execute an Affidavit explaining such difference and attach as supporting documents, at least two (2) public or private documents showing the correct name of the applicant (fee for the affidavit is AUD45.00).
- Old Philippine passport
- Australian Certificate of Naturalization
- Australian Passport
- For married applicants, Original (with registry number) or NSO Registered Philippine Marriage Certificate
• If married outside the Philippines, Report of Marriage (ROM) issued by the Philippine Embassy/Consulate (refer to www.philippineconsulate.com.au/civil.html)
• If widowed, marriage certificate and death certificate of spouse
• If marriage has been annulled, NSO-registered marriage certificate with annotation
• If divorced, marriage certificate and divorce decree
- Application/Petition with Dependents below 18 years of age
• Please refer to no. 2 and 3; and Australian passport
• If the child is adopted, adoption decree
- Photos
• Four (4) passport-sized colored photos with royal blue background, taken within the last 3 months. Photos should not show applicant in sleeveless or revealing attire and eyeglasses should be removed.
• The same requirement applies to dependents.
- Processing and Notarial Fees (payable only in cash, commercial bank check or postal money order)
Application/Petition for principal – AUD90.00
Application/Petition for dependent – AUD45.00
Notes:
• Please bring all original documents.
• Applicant must submit 2 copies of all original documents.
• Additional documents may be required by the consular officer, as appropriate.
• Processing Fees are non-refundable.
• Only applicants who lodge or send their applications to the Philippine
Consulate General Sydney will be processed and entertained. For applicants residing outside of New South Wales, it is understood that when lodging the application to the Consulate in Sydney, that they will undertake to travel to Sydney in person for the oath-taking ceremony once their application has been evaluated and approved by the Consulate.
• Oath-taking is normally held at the Consulate once a month.
