FILIPINA JOINS LIST OF DISTINGUISHED INTERNATIONAL PEACE AWARDEES

18 February 2013 - Ms. Joy Balazo, a Filipino-Australian who hails from Mindanao, has been recognized for over twenty years of work as a mediator and builder of peace by the World Methodist Council at ceremonies held on February 14 at the Wesley Mission in Sydney.

World Methodist Council General Secretary Bishop Ivan Abrahams presented the World Methodist Peace Award for 2012 to Ms. Balazo.

THANKSGIVING MASS IN HONOR OF SAINT PEDRO CALUNGSOD HELD IN NSW

A Thanksgiving Mass in honor of the Filipino saint, Saint Pedro Calungsod, was initiated by the Diocese of Parramatta and celebrated by Most Rev. Anthony Fisher OP, Bishop of Parramatta, at the St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia, on 10 February 2013. Assisting the Bishop were Father Andrew Baas and ten (10) Filipino priests, Fathers Raning Creta (Filipino Chaplain), John Jatking, Larry Tolentino, Jojo Eloja, Ruben Elago, Roy Cabradilla, Flor Apallas, Renato Paras, Dado Haber, and Mike Gimena.

Observance of the 27th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution 25 February 2013





This year's commemorative activities is dubbed, "Pilipinas Natin, Abot Tanaw Na!"

In the morning of February 25, activities at the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) Shrine in Manila will be highlighted by a message from President Benigno S. Aquino. Activities will also include a re-enactment of how civilian and military groups united to prevent bloodshed during the EDSA People Power Revolution of 1986.

PHILIPPINE TEAMS SHINE AT RUGBY LEAGUE COMPETITION IN NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA


On 2 February 2012, Filipino-Australian teams surprised spectators at the Cabramatta International 9s when the Philippine Airlines (PAL) Tamaraws won two matches on their first season in the international rugby league competition. They were the only team of Asian heritage in the competition dominated by European and Pacific Island countries.
