OVERSEAS ABSENTEE VOTING (OAV) MOBILE REGISTRATION IN WAGGA WAGGA



The Philippine Consulate General in Sydney will conduct an Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) mobile registration for eligible Filipinos in Wagga Wagga and its surrounding areas on Sunday, 19 August 2012, from 10:00am to 5:00pm at the Senior Citizen's Community Centre in Tarcutta St., Wagga Wagga, NSW.

Following are the requirements:

For Filipinos:
- photocopy of valid Philippine passport

For Dual citizens:
- Dual Citizenship Identification Certificate issued by the Consulate or the Philippine Bureau of Immigration.

UPDATE ON FLOOD SITUATION IN THE PHILIPPINES

Following are updated figures on the effects of the disaster, according to a report of the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Center (NDRRMC) dated 12 August 2012:

Thus far, NDRRMC reports that a total amount of P45,062,868.96 worth of relief assistance was provided to the affected families.

The Philippine Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has identified as priority items the following: new towels, face towels, blankets and beddings, and advises those interested in sending goods to label their donations as "assorted humanitarian goods" to facilitate release of the items upon arrival in the Philippines.

ADVISORY ON SITUATION IN THE PHILIPPINES IN THE WAKE OF SOUTHWEST MONSOON AND TROPICAL STORM “HAIKUI”



Since 6 August 2012, the Southwest Monsoon, enhanced by tropical storm Haikui, brought heavy to intense frequent rains over Luzon and the provinces of Ilocos, La Union, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and the National Capital Region (NCR).

According to a report of the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Center (NDRRMC), a total of 454,093 families or 1,953,481 persons were affected by the disaster, with nineteen (19) fatalities, nine (9) of whom were victims of a landslide incident in Lower Bayanihan, Brgy Commonwealth, Quezon City.

A total of 488 evacuation centers are currently serving 61,895 families or 292,809 persons.

Due to the flooding, a total of 154 roads and 4 bridges are not passable to all types of vehicles, mostly from NCR.

PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS IN NEW SOUTH WALES RUNS FROM 2 JUNE TO 8 JULY

Sydney, 13 July 2012 - The Philippine Consulate General in Sydney reported that activities to celebrate the 114th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence were held in various areas of New South Wales (NSW), Australia, from 2 June to 8 July.

The celebrations which started in the cities of Wagga Wagga and Bathurst on June 2nd culminated with a flag raising ceremony in Dubbo, 406 kilometers from Sydney, on July 8th.

Other activities organized by Filipino community (Filcom) associations included cultural programs and Independence Day balls.

Several Filcom groups also collaborated with local city councils in organizing flag-raising ceremonies. These ceremonies were held in Blacktown, Parramatta, Campbelltown, Penrith, Gosford and Dubbo.

20 STUDENTS OF CHARLES STURT UNIVERSITY IN AUSTRALIA UNDERTAKE WORKPLACE STUDY PROGRAM IN THE PHILIPPINES



Sydney, 3 July 2012 – Twenty (20) students of the Charles Sturt University (CSU) in Australia are taking part in a 2-week workplace study program in Manila. The program is organized by the CSU School of Computing and Mathematics in partnership with the Philippines-Australia Business Council (PABC). The CSU-PABC collaboration was facilitated by the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney.

The students, Australian as well as international, are from varied backgrounds and courses, such as computer science, information technology, accounting, business and human resource management.
