PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL SYDNEY HOLDS CONTINUING
PHILIPPINE LEGAL EDUCATION SEMINAR FOR FILIPINO-AUSTRALIAN LAWYERS
SYDNEY - The Philippine Consulate
General in Sydney reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs
that it successfully held a one-day Mandatory Continuing Legal
Education (MCLE) Seminar aimed at updating Filipino-Australian
legal practitioners of recent Philippine jurisprudence and other
important legal issues.
Consul General Maria Theresa Lazaro
(seated 3rd from right), together with the participants to the
Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) Seminar.
Philippine Consul General to Sydney
Maria Theresa Lazaro reported that the seminar was held on the
15TH of September at the Consulate and was attended by twenty-four
(24) Filipino-Australian lawyers. A team of four legal practitioners
based in the Philippines composed of the Hon. Judge Marissa Guillen
and Attys. Soledad Cagampan de Castro, Arturo de Castro and Marilen
Ramiro were the seminar’s speakers.
The speakers’ topics covered
the following: (1) Special Issues in Family Law which covered
the effects of marriages and divorces under Philippine law, annulment
and adoption procedures; (2) Property acquisition and alienation
procedures in the Philippines; and (3) Philippine citizenship
and immigration issues.
Consul General Lazaro remarked:
“The Legal Education Seminar on special issues of Philippine
law, in particular those covering family, property and citizenship,
is a welcome and timely opportunity for Filipino-Australian lawyers
who wish to update themselves of the latest Philippine jurisprudence.
Considering the fact that most of them conduct their practice
within the Greater Sydney Area where 68,000 Filipino reside and
are most likely their regular clients, this course will greatly
aid them in providing timely legal advice to questions concerning
Philippine law and procedures.”
The MCLE Course will be officially
accredited as part of the professional development program under
the Professional Conduct and Practice Rules of the New South Wales
(NSW) Law Society. The Society is the statewide professional regulating
body for legal practitioners. END
