23 October 2008 – The Philippine Consulate General in Sydney reports that a group of Philippine judges are in Sydney for a one-week interaction with Australian officials to share knowledge and expertise on judicial reform and possible collaboration.
The visiting judges are officers of the Philippine Judges Association (PJA), the organization formed by 900 judges of Regional Trial Courts, Shari’a District Courts, and all such other Courts of equal or similar jurisdictions across the Philippines.
They will meet with the officers of the Judicial Conference of Australia, University of Sydney Faculty of Law, International Development Law Organization (IDLO), and the Filipino-Australia Lawyers Group in Sydney for consultations and the sharing of knowledge, expertise, and best practices.
The Philippine judges will discuss matters with their Australian counterparts on a wide range of special areas which include environmental law, antiterrorism and anti-money laundering efforts and utilization of alternative dispute resolution methods among others.
Philippine Consul General Maria Theresa Lazaro said that this visit of the Philippine judges is another aspect of people-to-people exchanges which will enhance bilateral relations between the Philippines and Australia.
